“ Born
and raised in
Philadelphia, I was in 3rd
grade when I failed the
school eye exam for the first
time. After that, I wore…
and broke more glasses
than I care to remember.
The turning point in my
life came the summer after
I graduated from college.
While on a camping trip,
I had the misfortune of
scratching my cornea.
Luckily, I was treated by
a very kind ophthalmologist
who encouraged me to go to
medical school. Now, since
I’ve had LASIK completed
on my own eyes, I no longer
have to worry about broken
glasses. With every patient
I attend to, I remember the
ophthalmologist’s kindness,
and I am able to empathize
with each one due to my
own experience with poor
eyesight. Every visit, of
course, is always with me.”
